Friends, it is coming, it is soon. On March 17, I depart. On an adventure.
Next week I will begin an extended pause from managing construction projects in hospitals at home in Seattle. For nine months I will be on a journey.
I don't deserve to be able to do something like this any more than anyone else. I am incredibly grateful for the timing of what life has to offer right now and to be able to pursue what I love.
During past travels, I have shared the adventures through word and photo, and acquired a surprising following of readership. So, you are invited to follow along on this grand adventure.
You can join me and subscribe to automatic updates of my travel narrative.
The themes while out of office include:
- Visiting friends from past travels
- Tracing my heritage and going to the countries my families are originally from. (Currently 350+ hours into this research.)
- Put an end to some dreams, by making them a reality.
While traveling, I will also focus on:
- Learning (reading, video courses, local culture, family history)
- Writing
- Photography
- Rest
- Pubs and Pints (because no great story started with someone eating a salad)
- Fitness (we'll see)
The biggest risks determined for this adventure:
- Death
- Not being able to find a pint of my favorite beer
But I'm not scared, Guinness is served in more than 120 countries.
So, go ahead and take a peak at each page, of which there is a summary below. You'll be able to see what will be coming.
Home: Full screen slideshow of some favorite photos from past adventures, both locally and globally. Maybe we can think of this page as my credentials. Click on the "i" symbol in the upper right if you are interested in details about the photo.
Word: Where I'm going to hit you with words, lots of them. (You're here right now!)
Photo: Don't read much? You'll spend most of your time here.
Map: You're going to like this. Not simply a map that shows travel routes and key locations, but also links the photo galleries and travel narrative posts to all show up where they occur, so you can have one location for reference.
Tree: So far there is just a sneak peak of what will end up here. I'll be posting the full content as I visit the countries my families are from. This content is separate from the travel narrative since it will be significant in length. But don't worry, it will be mentioned and linked so you won't miss it when it posts.
About and Contact: I bet you've seen pages like this before, but that doesn't mean they're not worth checking out. I think they're pretty good myself.
And knowing me, there are probably some other pages that are just being a little shy right now.
The itinerary is intentionally not posted, so you're just going to have to follow along to find out! We will see where I go, not even I yet fully know. And a return flight can't be booked until you know where you will end.
See you soon!
